Faced with the prospect of a long day of revision ahead, myself and Daniela decided to treat ourselves to a hearty brain food powered brunch.
Obviously we began with coffee- with a much needed double shot in our case. They serve excellent coffee and have an extensive weekend breakfast menu featuring a traditional fry up- the No.33 Big Breakfast- as well as other typical brunch dishes including scrambled, poached, or fried eggs on toast, eggs Benedict and a selection of homemade pastries.
I was feeling nostalgic for my time in America where, without fail, I would have stacks of pancakes every weekend, so I decided to go for these beauties and it was definitely the right choice. Huge, fluffy, buttery and yet incredibly light and crispy, served with oodles of maple syrup, a bundle of fresh fruit and finished with a sprinkling of icing sugar- true American style.
Dani went for Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon on a toasted muffin. The hollandaise sauce came on the side which was a nice addition as sometimes I find Eggs Benedict too heavy if it is smothered in too much of the rich dressing. The eggs were perfectly rounded and perfectly cooked with runny orange yolks that burst as you cut into them.
We chatted and nibbled, enjoying the food whilst trying not to think about our looming exams.
A cheeky shot of Dan photographing her mocha.
The café has a laid back, rustic, yet modern feel, with the kitchen on full display so you can watch the chefs at work.
They don't have a website but the restaurant is located at 33 (If you hadn't guessed) Exchange Street, Norwich.
